Not a Winchester, a Marlin, cannot be sure of model but lever and lever hing pin location( dropped slightly below receiver) is characterstic of a Marlin. Looks much like the current 1894 model but is probably an older say 1896( I'm guessing from memory)

Jeff - it happens every day, or at least often. Check out the progression of answers to September 7 Mystery Mauser responses. IMHO it is one of the things that makes this daily event both fun and educational.

Actually, I was working late last night so I was at work, too. Like Jeff said, the lever hinge in front of the trigger is a Marlin characteristic. I just made a guess after that.

Usually, I don't guess these lever action guns correctly while at work as I do not know too much about them. I usually get them more often from home 'cause I have a book that shows many of them. This time it was off the cuff. I guess I'm learning them a little now since we started the "Mystery Mauser" game.

Yesterday was the first time I stumbled across the "mystery mauser" Interesting after looking back a ways. Will have to vistit and participate more often. Will probably be more lurking and learning. Just lucked up on that one cause Marlins, at least fairly modern one interest me.
