Got to take a rare morning off, and my son and I spent some time at the range..... FINALLY....
I was able to shoot my m38 and 91/30 for the first time....... WmRoy LIKE!!!
Since it was pretty overcast and light was poor (not to mention my eyes are old and weak..... I just set up at 50 yards)......
The m38 was the first one I fired and I have to say I took a quick liking to the ugly little gal............ she shoots about 4 inches to the left, but at 50 yards she was grouping very well...... for me anyways.......... used Brown Bear FMJ and it fired very well for me in both guns. After about 10 rounds I could see she was in need of a front sight adjustment and I decided to put her away...... but I also decided to look for some hunting ammo for her...... OHH..... and what was really cool was that since it was an overcast and gloomy morning she was shooting some truly stunning flames out of the barrel!! I had the steyr m95 along too and I didn't notice any flames from her.... but that little m38 was a fire breather!
Next I pulled out the 91/30 and I tell ya I fell in love with that tall ugly stick for sure!! First two rounds were 4 inches high and about 2.5 inches to the left but overlapping by a good 1/3..... so much so that I had to walk up to look at the target cause I couldn't find my second shot with my scoped k98 sporter (we forgot the spotting scope) I finished off the box of ammo (8 rounds) and I had a nice 2 x 2.25 inch group right in the bullseye...... I used about a 4 o'clock hold to pull that off.....
All in all I hate to admit it but I really fell for these ugly girls....... especially that 91/30 with a scope she could be a scary one!!
I also took along my sporterized k98, my m1893 Spanish Mauser, and my m95 Steyr....... all in all I had a great time.
My son as always shot his .243 for a while and then proceeded to blast several milk jugs to bits with his Ruger 10/22. He's at that age were it's more fun to just blast than try and place your shots.
I'll post about the rest of the guns in the 'shootin the breeze'......
God Bless!:grinning-thumbsup:
