I feel for the father of course, but doesn't he think that his own son is partially responsible for his own death? I mean if he and his buddies hadn't been on someone else's property, beating the heck out of the guy, regardless of the reason, I doubt that the homeowner would have been drawing his weapon.

Agreed.
If this man felt he needed to shoot to survive, then he did the right thing. As far as what the father said about just trying to hit him in the arm or something, that goes against all logic of civilian self-defense with a firearm. Aim for center mass.
