Hello
I just purchased a Charles Daly magnum mauser receiver and am planning on building a rifle in 264 win mag. My question is does anyone offer bolts with a magnum bolt face? The guys at rrguns are willing to build me a complete bolt just the way I want it for $189. Is there any other options? Any comments or observations on this project would be greatly appreciated. As this is my first rifle build.
Thanks

stripped reciever?
do you know if it is a standard leignth action or if its longer than a normal m98? i checked numrichs...unless we know a cross refernce its a bust there for now. you can try calling them.
i think it was brno that made the guns, if i am not mistaken they were the same as the markX?
at the moment the best i can think of is find out if your action is the same as the m98, if so then your good to go just find a comercial bolt, or at worst get a good quality military bolt and have it converted to a magnum lowscope bolt.
if you have a m98 see if its bolt will fit or is too long or short.

Yes it is a stripped receiver. And I do believe they are the same as the interarms mark X. I've actually just sent payment and will have to wait till it arrives and see if a m98 bolt fits. I assume it will. My understanding is that this is a standard length action the same as any regular large ring mauser. I have not seen any comercial bolts with the proper bolt face.

it it is indeed a stardard leingth then i recomend you have someone good do the alterations to the bolt. i hope you get a good bolt with your order. luck of the draw i guess.
next i guess you will be needing the rest of the parts. the triggerguard is going to hurt ya, your going to need to find one made for magnums or have a really good looking military altered to fit the 264. seems brownells had some cast ones that were not over priced. the bolt stop is something i have been searching for cheaply, best i can do is take a decent one and work the spring down on a sharpening stone followed by polishing it. the box is a bit harder to work with and i have not yet found a way to get it perfect, best to just look for a really good one that will polish up well. i have used the bold triggers and like them. the extractors are a little easier to make look good, but they too take time. since your using a mag you might as well get a new extractor from brownells, this will save you a lot of time fixing up a military one. seems brownells also has new extractor collars too.
my brother has a remington 700 classic in 264. this is one of those guns people look for around here, but just cant find. those who have them keep them!
a guy i watch on ebay has nice stocks for resonable prices, some are pricey however. if your looking for something special check out http://stores.ebay.com/Dakotacliffs-Stock-Shop_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZQ2d33QQftidZ2QQtZkm
what barrel do you intend to use on it?

Yes this is a hard caliber to find. Thats why I'm building one. As for the barrel I was thinking about having Shaw do the barrel, but I haven't ruled out doing it myself yet. I am thinking something 26 inches in length about 1in10 twist. For the stock I'm looking at a boyds JRS series at www.boydboys.com.
Thanks for the thoughts. Feel free to come back with any more.

I think you can buy a bolt from Brownells with the larger magnum boltface. If not a cheaper route may be to get a gunsmith make you a larger boltface? :dontknow:

Didn't have any luck at brownells. But spied a couple of bolts on an auction site. Will let you know how I turn out.

I've got the receiver and it is standard length. I also got the guy who sold me the receiver to sell me a bolt and exctractor set up for the magnum cartridge.:headbanger: Now I'm just shopping around for the rest of the action parts. once I acquire these I think I'm going to have shaw do the final assembly.
Will keep ya posted.

If you want a hinged floor plate here is one. I have heard that these need a little tweeking to get them to fit right.

I would probably go with a 1 in 9 twist rate to stableize the larger bullits.
