Deer season is over and it's good to be getting back on a regular Wednesday range day schedule. It was 27 degrees here this morning so Jimmy and I didn't make it to the range till 11AM.By then it was decent.
I took the Enfield No.1MkIII ex-grenade launcher with the new to it German reticule scope,"Little Boomer" which is my M48 Mauser that I had Fred the gunsmith make a "camel carbine" out of by shortening the barrel to 16-1/2"and a new to me NEF .410 single shot that sat in the shop for weeks begging me to take it home.So I finally did.
I had bore sighted the Enfield prior to going to the range and was greatly surprised when the first shot at 25 yards was dead center.Bore sighting has always gotten me "on the paper" but never this close.I immediately went to 100 yards and it was dead in the bull although about 1/2" low.Three clicks up and it was definitely sighted in perfectly with my .310 150Grain handloads.I never had a rifle that easy to get exactly right.I shot about 20 rounds with it and it held a great group with all of them very close inside the 2-1/2" red bull at 100 yards.
This is probably one of the cheapest rifles I have having paid $50 for it initially and $20 for the used Tasco 3X9X32 German reticule scope with rings from a customer at the shop.Fred had drilled and tapped it for me several years ago and I have been shooting it with a Tasco fixed 4X scope.
I hunt with it some and last year killed two feral dogs at my hunting lease with it.
Next was the .410 and I shot some shot shells to check pattern at 25 yards. It's full choke so the pattern on the paper was acceptable.I then tried some Brenneke 3" one ounce slugs at 25 yards and they were all in the bull.
I also tried some 3" Sellier& Belloit loaded with 5 00buckshot.A respectable load.At 25 yards there was not much dispersion of the buckshot and most time it looked like they all went into the same hole.
After shooting the .303 the felt recoil on the .410 was absolutely nothing feeling. This shotgun is an NEF and has laminated buttstock and forearm.Good looking little thing and it is probably gonna become my carry along just in case "walk in the woods" gun.
Finally I shot "Little Boomer".Using Turk 8MM it really lives up to it's name. The fireball with the Turk ammo makes a Mosin look tame.Jimmy has the second little boomer. He saw mine and had Fred make another but his is drilled and tapped for a scope. He was making clover leafs with it at 100 yards. The balance of these short carbines is amazing. Both of them still have the upper handguard so they look like miniature M48's.I can only punch paper for so long and then I just have to shoot at sticks and clay pigeons on the 100 yard berm. It's fun to flip a clay over by hitting right beside it on purpose. If you hit right under a foot long piece of 1X4 at 100 yards it will throw it 20 feet in the air.
Finally it came time for Jimmy to go back to work and me to go home.Good times are always over way too soon.

I'm glad that you get to shoot so often. We just got through the first blizzard of 07 here in Kotzebue, and is finally starting to warm up enough to think about taking the Enfield out.

Better change your tag line to include Enfields. You are really going to like that particular Enfield.Remember that it absolutely doesn't like boattail bullets.
