The Portuguese were one of the earliest users of the Parabellum pistol, Luger to us, and continued to procure the Luger right up to the end of Luger production.

Circa late 1903 - early 1904, the Portuguese acquired 100 1900-pattern 7.65m/m pistols for trials. These were from standard commercial production and are reported in the serial range 18767-18900. These pistols bear issue numbers 1 to 100

From the collection here's an example of this unique Luger variation. Serial number 18861 and issue number 62.

Fascinating Francis (thanks for posting my friend). When did Luger production end?

Officially, Mauser Werke ceased production of the Luger in 1942, but assembly surely continued after that using parts left in inventory. It is interesting that H. Krieghoff Waffenfabrik, the last manufacturer to start and last to cease Luger manufacturing, produced Lugers dated to 1945.
