View Full Version : Old Colt 45
My grandfather brought this Colt 45 back home from WWI and gave it to my father, who gave it to me about 50 years ago. I am not a collector and really have no reason to keep this firearm, so I have thought about selling it. Does anyone know what price range I should expect from the sale of this old Colt? Since I am limited to attacing only 2 photos, I have attaching closeups of the markings on the gun. I also have photos showing both sides of the Colt, in both the open and closed position that I can post later.

It looks like a 1914 year manufacture, all together a fairly nice looking piece for it's age. But as for the value, all I could say is probably not cheap unless it's in poor shape internally.

No idea personally on the value. You might try to find a similar piece on one of the gun auction sites.
I'm curious about one thing though.........you said it was from your grandfathers in WWI, which I'm sure it is. But it's stamped as a "Government" model. Were those issued to the military back then?
I'm probably wrong, but I was thinking that the government models were only issued to law enforcement, etc. Again, I'm probably way off base, but again, just curious as to how it really was done back then.
Thanks for the reply CoorLightGuy.
I was told that the pistol was brought back from the War. But who knows the truth? Everyone except me who had anything to do with this Colt 45 has passed away. It's possible that my grandfather obtained it not as a veteran but as a civilian prior to WWI.

If I get some time, I'll try to find out more info.
