I just thought I would throw you doggies a bone and put up some pictures to share. Enjoy! Stan's new toy, a NEF 45/70. Now I'll just post the pictures and let the Ol' Fella do the narration later on...

A little blurry perhaps, but a quick shot to compare the 45/70 cartridges to. From L to R; .223, 6.5x55, 7.62x54R Albanian milsurp, 7.62x54R S&B SP, 8x57, 45/70 (300gr), and 45/70 (350gr). I am not 100% positive about the 45/70 bullets but I am sure Ol' Fella will correct me when he gets up from his nap! :p

Here's mi compadre shooting his all time favorite Mauser, a Czech 98/22. Externally, this one is typical of Mausers of that era. It's a little beat up and soaked in cosmoline (still talking 'bout the rifle - not necessarily Stan). But I can assure you that this one is quite the shooter.

Every now and then Dr. Nagant (aka Stan/aka Ol' Fella) brings a tennis ball or something like that and we take turns shooting it 'til we run out of ammo (which never happens - you should see his garage.

Here is Stan's pal Jimmy! He usually shows up with Lil' Boomer II. This is a nice m48 that has been worked on by the Fredmeister @ LowTech (http://www.gun-shop.biz). The barrel has been shortened along with the stock and handguard.

LBII (Lil' Boomer) has a low mount safety, Timney trigger, and nice scope set up (I forget - but think it's a Burris). I haven't seen Jimmy in probably two years but it was good seeing him. He was good enough to let me shoot LBII as well ~ sweet!

I think this reminds of one of those shortened carbines? I think that it is about the same size?? Anyway, because of the shortened barrel you should see the flames come out of the barrel when you pull the trigger! You m38 & m44 fans know what I am talking about!!

And here's the Old Buzzard, ooops, scratch that, here is the Ol' Fella shooting my Winchester model 70 in .223, courtesy of Fred @ LowTech (beginning to sound like an info-mercial eh)? It's in a black synthetic stock, free floated Ranger barrel, glass bedded, custom trigger work, and topping it off it has a Redfield 5 star 4X scope. Talk about tack-driver!

All kidding aside ~ tack driver my friends. I haven't brought this one out to shoot in some time because it is what I call: "Boringly accurate!" Ol' Fella was tickled pink shooting this one. After shooting a couple of rounds through her he corrected me, and he was right again (groan). He said: "It is not boringly accurate, that is how a rifle is supposed to shoot!" :grinning-thumbsup:

And then we suspended a 1" foam ball at the 100 yard marker with a piece of string. And we took turns putting holes in it with the Winchester. Considering we were using steel cased Russian milsurp we did surprisingly well and probably put 1 out of 3 shots right through the ball. Imagine what we could have done with commerical ammunition? Imagine what we could have done with handloads??
Boringly accurate? Oh yeah!! Yesterdays excursion has really got me thinking that my next toy will be a new 6.5x55 target rifle of some type. And I am leaning towards the CZ...

Note how in every shooting picture Stan is shooting from the wrong side! :confused2: :dontknow:
Jimmy, on the other hand, uses the correct shoulder. :D :grinning-thumbsup:

And of course I brought along my favorite milsurp of all time - my SAKO m39! The Ol' Fella was good enough to bring some Albanian milsurp for me to use, and use it I did! A fairly good day for me at the range, only 1 flyer!
Jimmy (the guy with Lil' Boomer II) brought some clay pigeons and Stan I took turns decimating them @ 100 yards. Me with my Nagant, him with his 98/22! Fun, fun, fun!

Remember when WG&A had them for $89? I do. This is one of them. I see that their website is back up and running - but nothing anywhere near that price anymore!

Are the pictures taking too long to download? I can resize them if you even think this is a problem, I want everyone to be able to view this pix w/o having to wait forever...

Not for me.......with the newer faster server and me being on broadband, it loads nice and fast. I was just thinking of the guys who still use dial-up. Even though the server tosses them out fast, they can only receive them at dial-up speeds.
It's no biggie, I was just messing with ya.

Ah,good pictures there,DOG.Notice the intense concentration on the face of the master at work.LOL.
The new 45/70 is a real honey.I have regretted selling my other short one so I just had to have a new one.I also have it's big brother the Buffalo Classic which has front and rear aperature sights and a 32" barrel.
The shortened M48 being shot by Jimmy is called "Little Boomer II".I have "Little Boomer #1".Jimmy opted to have Fred drill and tap for the scope, mount a low swing safety and a Timmey trigger. Most people look at them and remark how they probably have mucho recoil but it really is quite mild. The balance is quite nice in the shortened state.
The 98/22 is one of three I ordered from SOG.It is very accurate.Probably the most accurate milsurp I own.Yesterday it got so hot shooting the Turk ammunition that cosmoline was literally oozing from the stock.I did account for two tennis balls in two consecutive shots at 100 yards.I have never seen a 98/22 that didn't shoot good.I prefer that model to the much vaunted Persian Mauser model 98/30 and I have had one of each.
It was good to have a day at the range with two good friends.Usually it is just Jimmy and myself but DOG was on vacation this week and we were glad that he could join us.
