It was a really beautiful spring like day here with a high of 72 degrees.I met Jim Kirby at the range at 10AM.I took the Martini with the new front sight blade,Buffalo Classic 45/70 and red dot mounted AK-47.
The new front sight blade on the Martini is exactly the correct height.I was shooting bullseyes at 100 yards using my 150 Grain .303British handloads. For some reason this rifle just doesn't like the 180 Grain loads.
The 45/70 has Lyman #17A target front sights with changeable inserts. To date I've been shooting it with the concentric ring front sight insert.Today I thought I'd try a post insert.I used the medium height post from the assortment of inserts and it turns out that this was the best thing to use.You are able to concentrate better on the alignment of the front and rear peeps and the post gives a better sight picture. This is the first time I have gotten accuracy this good from this rifle. My handloads are 300 Grain hollow points.A 45/70 will really kick a tennis ball wayyyy up in the air from 100 yards.
The AK was about as usual.I only shot clays off the berm at 100 yards. It's a fun blaster but that's about it.What can you expect from a 16" barrel in an AK?
