View Full Version : Well, another Winter War shoot?

In just a few hours I will be getting up and joining some of mi compadres on a shoot. This is something that Stan in SC (aka Ol' Fella) and some of our friends do every year. It is called "The Winter War Shoot." Every year about this time some of us get together, talk guns, and do some shooting. And we also manage to eat. I do not think I shot at the last shoot even though I was there (I was networking).

Well, wish me luck anyway. Stan is bringing his 1944 m39 (I do not stand a chance of outshooting him) and I am bringing my 1943 m39. Oh yes, I am bringing my friend Matt with me as well (First ever firearm purchase). He came to see me at a gunshow last year and went home with a Finnish m27! Stranger things have happened, and I am really glad to see him coming along with us on our manly pilgrimage. :cool-smiley-1:

Enjoyed shooting with you today and Matt seemed to have a good time. What was it, something like 18 or so shooters in attendance? Friends, guns, food...to paraphrase, it's a good thing.:)
Bill and I talked about having a .22 shoot and maybe a good ol' pig pickin' bbq in the near future.

Bill,

By all means put a link in for us to see the slideshow! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi. I will try and post a few pictures here tomorrow (time permitting). So, what is the meaning of life? I mean, besides coming in 1st place again with your m39? :dontknow:

Bill,

I think this guy is Jimmy Kirby, one of Stan's shooting buddies and a fellow milsurper from our area. I have been to shoots with him before. :grinning-thumbsup:

Stan was shooting at the 25 yard target and hitting my target at 100 yards {honest}! :cussing:

The guy on the right is my pal Matt and fellow co-worker. I might add that he is former anti-gunner. One day last summer he came to see me at a gunshow where I was selling my DOG-oil. We got to chatting and he seemed kind of interested in the milsurp thing. We walked around he spotted this beat up old Finn m27 that a vendor had for sale (I still cannot believe I did not see it first). We haggled for a few minutes and Matt walked out the door with her for $175. We had to buy a new extractor for her (I took her home and cleaned her up for him). He absolutely loves his Finn my friends, and he had a blast {pun intended} shooting with us yesterday. Be on the lookout for him at the next couple of shoots okay (don't hold it against him that he is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan okay?).

My wife's best friend made it for me. I think she got the pattern from a toilet seat cover {that is what it looks like to me anyway}. Go ahead and laugh it up guys. Ugly it is, but warm it is too!

Indeed that picture was Jim Kirby shooting his K98.I was glad to see him come to his first get together and see how much fun it was.
Between my Yooper hat and Dog's gnome cap I think we had the ultimate in chapeaus for the day.

I'll fix the captions to ID those gentlemen. The fact that Matt is a Steeler's fan is what I liked most about him so far.:grinning-thumbsup:

I didn't get a chance to talk to Jimmy.

I hope to see those guys at more of our shoots. We all had a fine time.

Stan's afraid no one will notice him without that hat.:D

Hey, I'm in there!!

I'm the guy in the British DPM vest.

We do have a good group of guys to shoot w/ ..

My brain fart for the day was on the trip up.. I got in my mind I was heading to Charlotte for some reason and got about 40 miles out of the way before realizing it. Luckily, I was able to plot a course on backroads using the map and was only about 15 minutes behind schedule. In doing so, I found an alternate route that l may actually start using to get to IC range. Pleasant country drive...

You might even know about my "undisclosed location", secrect honey hole of C&R acquisitions, there near the Susquehanna river!
