Hello Fellas,

I was directed here by a very helpful gent by the handle WmRoy. I am in desperate need of some help from you collectors. I have recently aquired a Mauser type action rifle and have no idea of how to identify it. I do know that it is chambered in 7mm cartridge. This rifle has absolutely no manufacters name on it. The only markings on this rifle are a set of numbers on the left of the reciever just under the bolt, and a set of digits on the bolt itself. Which I will produce to help id this weapon if they would be of any relevance. I am curious as to the make and model of this rifle because I wish to tap the receiver for a scopemount but I don't want to compromise the collectability aspect of this rifle, if any. Secondly, having no idea what type of rifle this actually is makes it near impossible to shop for the correct mounts, since I've no idea of what rifle I am shopping for. Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. My hope is to aid some of ya'll with your own dilemmas to return the favor.

Here are some photos to aid in the diagnosis:

Thank You Folks,
John

well, I don't think the collectablility should be an issue since the stock has been reworked already and it looks like any markings may have been scrubbed. The turned down bolt will help when mounting a scope, so I say go for it! as to the origin of the weapon and a model, you've got me there, but I'm sure someone will be along to help to identify it.

hope this helps

It's hard to say, at least for me, as there aren't enough close-up shots. Somebody might be able to narrow it down for you, but as far as collectability goes, as xpertgreg said, that's not an issue at this point.

It is good however to know what you have. I'd just look at is as a fun shooter and nothing more, unless you were able to remount it to an "original" stock that would have been on the gun back in it's day.

It being in 7mm my guess would be that it is a 93 Soainish. If not it is of around that vintage

Caisson-John,

I'm glad you made it over.......

I'm with HerrMesser I'm pretty sure that it once was a Spanish model 93. I have one and tomorrow when I'm cleaning the garage I'll dig it out of the safe to compare it to your photos. It's pretty common for the Spanish Mausers to be scrubbed (markings ground off) all 3 of mine are (I have 2 m1916's) .... and that's what you seem to have...

Personally, I really love mine! She is a great shooter and the 7mm mauser for whatever reason is one of my favorite calibers...........:grinning-thumbsup:

Thanks for swinging over and please pass the word about our forum!

God Bless,
WmRoy

Thank You Gents,

All the info is greatly appreciated. I was given this ole gal by a buddy and I didn't figger she was worth much but I just wanted to make sure before I started drilling on it. Do any of you gents have any pointers on the best mounts and where to procure them? Any good ammo suggestions would be most valuable too, I hate to be so needy as the FNG, but I have no ideas or experience to guide me regarding this gun. I certainly will pass the info about this site along to all my pardners cuz I feel you certainly got a good thing going here. I wish all the forums were as helpful and fast at replying to posts as your group here are. I look forward to keeping in contact with this site in the future.

Thanks Again----John

John,

I posted a link for ammo over at the Gunsmithing forum. Here it is again: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/defenseh_cgh.htm

I've used the S&B, Hornady and Federal ammo..... liked the S&B and the Hornady..... :D The Federal was fine but I like the other 2 better...:grinning-thumbsup:

I don't know of any mounts, but I also gave you a link to try out in locating them.......

Does anyone here have any suggestions on mounts for John???:dontknow:

Is there a crest on the front receiver ring? If so, can you take a clear photo of it to show us?
