Our apologies. For some reason our Linux server was down temporarily. I'm not sure for how long, I've not looked into it that far yet.

In any case, we got the server back up, but then the MySQL server wasn't responding, so I logged in and restarted it.

This server has been running 24/7 for months without any problems, so hopefully it was just a temporary glitch at the Data Center. I've contacted them and I should get more details later.

Again, sorry for the temporary outage, but everything seems fine again.

I just got a reply from one of the techs at the Data Center:

"Upon review of your inquiry, I have found that the server your account is hosted on, was undergoing some unscheduled maintenance earlier by our Senior Administrators. This has since been completed and everything is currently functioning properly for you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know."

"Unscheduled maintenance" is essentially "geek talk" for:

"Something got hosed up and we fixed it." (i.e. Most likely it required a server reboot).

I work on LANS and WANS for a living and many times the only thing that will "fix" a problem is to restart the server so that all memory leaks are flushed and all essential services required to operate properly get restarted.

Windows servers although reliable, seem to require more restarts than Linux servers do, thus one of the reasons I put the forum on a Linux server. Hopefully we're fine now. It's late here, but I'll keep an eye on things until I do hit the sack and then check it again tomorrow morning before going out into the field to perform server maintenance for one of my local clients.
