A friend of mine at work has inherited a shotgun that was her fathers. He passed away a few weeks ago and she does not want the shotgun in her house. She estimates that the shotgun is 50 years old. She wants to sell it and asked if I would help her. Serial # is 583710-4

It is a Ithaca model 37 12GA with a 30" Featherweight barrel. The barrel is not rifled and it has a full choke. It has also a nice 1/2 rubberized recoil pad on it which has the JC Higgins label on it.

I would rate the condition as being G/VG. The stock has some minor scratches on it and the blue is 95+ %.

How much is it worth? Yes, I could post pictures but I am tired! :cool-smiley-1:

I sold one recently at the shop with excellent blueing and great unscratched and undented wood and a 30" full choke barrel that looked like brand new for $200.Now that's what a shop could expect to get.An individual selling one in the shape you describe could expect to reasonably get $125 to $150.A good model 37 is an excellent shotgun. They are unique in that there is only one opening on the receiver and that is at the bottom. They are loaded and eject from there.
I can research the serial number for you in our book at the shop.

37's are great shotguns! I have my Dad's 12 guage, and also a 20. The price up here for a VG shape 12 is around $250.........
