I traded a Mosin to a friend the other day and got a really nice Longbranch Enfield No.4Mk.I* dated 1943.The action, magazine, bolt and even the fore stock match.
Wood is undented and unscratched.Metal finish is like new.The bore is excellent and I can find no "FTR" stamp on the rifle nor can I find an import mark.
I've known this rifle for three or four years and even shot it.I always admired it and asked several times if he wished to sell it.Then out of the blue he called me about a rifle I had advertised for sale and offered to trade.Naturally I jumped on it.
I'll see if I can get DOG to take a picture and post it.

If you traded him even for a Mosin, I'd say that you did well.

Today was range day and I took the No.4.It shoots great.Very accurate with my handloads.Just for old times sake I did fire one Kynoch round dated Nov. of 1939.

What's wrong with a Mosin? I have an M-39 that is a fine shooter and sporter too. I also have a sported Enfield as well.

Only thing wrong with the Mosin is that Stan's an Enfield kinda guy........ ;)

But I was the original "Dr. Nagant" before I was an Enfield kind of guy.
Actually I now have the absolute best shooters of the Mosin ilk.M39 and M91/59(The CC Special).

To be technical about it.... I have TWO sported Enfields. A NICELY No4 Mk1 and a NICELY sported M-1917 Win. Contract in .30-06.
WmRoy, I knew this, and he is a man of many means. ;)
The C.C. Special {Or C.C.S.} is a rifle Stan built when I Moderated elsewhere in a NOW RIGHT WING forum he saw mine and asked me about it and built his own likeness of my rifle in his own way sorta kinda the same way, but a bit different. It suits Stan like mine suits me. It is still in 7.62x54Rmm but a shade different. It is still a bare bones Mosin, if you want to get down to the Nitty Gritty, like my Dad says. Dad is a WWII Vet. as well. YEEHAW!

sounds like you made a great move to me .....im also fonder of enfeilds , i realise the mosin folks are as true to theirs as we to ours , and ive recently learned of the great depth of the topic , but im sticking with my enfeilds ,
BTW i think the longbranches are the finest of the mkI*s , not because i dislike the savages but simply from observed fineness of fit and finish - there are no bad enfeilds tho
