View Full Version : M1 Carbine
Greetings all.
I'm wonding if anyone here owns an M1 Carbine. Do you like it? How does it perform? (considering what the cartridge is)
I'm thinking of getting one of the new ones manufactured by Kahr Arms. (I know, not C&R, but I will keep looking for a decent deal on one also.)
Thanks.:cool-smiley-1:

I own a Universal M-1 Carbine. Not a C&R, but a copy of the real McCoy. Too many people discredit the little .30 Carbine round, it has numbers that compare to the .357 Mag. and the .44 Mag. too.

The carbines are nice, and a lot of fun to shoot. As expensive as the GI's are, I think saving the GI's, and having one of the commercial productions for shooting is a good idea.
You'll hear the comercial pieces getting a bad rap once in a while, but it's like anything else, you can get good ones and bad.

I've got an M1 Carbine, Springfield Armory, WWII dated. I bought it at the same time that I bought my M1 Garand, also Springfield Armory and WWII dated. It's fun to shoot from time to time, but I actually like the kick of my SKS more.

I've had an Inland for many years, and they are fun to plink with. Mine shoots well at 100 yards when it's clean!
Nice. Thanks for the picture. :D
It looks like I'm just going to get one of the new ones manufactured by Kahr arms. My FFL dealer is getting me one wholesale. It won't be Military or C&R but then again, I just want a new shooter.
I'm also going to be ordering accessories for the M1 Carbine. Magazine pouch, 15 round GI magazines, reproduction US rifle case, and sling...for starters. The rifle won't be GI issue, but neither are the accessories I listed, except for the 15 magazines. (I want reliability there) :cool-smiley-1:
Thanks.

iquitos, Nice Carbine there.
I wonder where I could find a magazine pouch for my Carbine as well. I have wanted one for a long time and two spare but good Gov't surplus mags. to go with the Gov't surplus 15 round mags. I already have too. I'll trade a 30 round milsurp mag for two 15 round mags. and a pouch for some extra cash too.
Ash, I'm glad you said Kahr and not IAI. IAI is known to be ridden with bad Carbines of poor construction and quality too. I know too many people that bought the IAI copies and had them sent back in return for their money, only to buy a Kahr too.

I ordered some of the reproduction mag pouches from somebody when I was ordering some screws for my kar98k. It's been so long ago that I don't remember who it was off the top of my head. In any case, they aren't hard to find. Just do a Google search.

www.sportsmansguide.com has the 30 round pouches for the M-1. They may have the 15 rounders as well.
Yep, the Guide is where I'm ordering everything except the 15 round magazines. They only list brand new manufactured ones. I'm getting the mags from MidwayUSA instead. The triple K ones they list in 15 round capacity are supposed to be unissued GI magazines still in the protective wrappers. Sounds good to me.

Im going to nevada tomorrow and meeting with a relative. Hes going to make some purchases on my behalf, like some 15 round clips and a barreled m2 reciever.
I am profoundly jealous of the liberties they enjoy only miles away. Be glad you dont live in California.

And all it cost me was 260 dollars.
What really boiled my blood was that before it was my turn at the guys booth, another customer had bought the sellers two garands for 1200 dollars.
ONE GARAND FOR 600 DOLLARS AND THAT BASTARD BOUGHT BOTH OF THEM!!

I own 3 of them.
All of them are Inlands.
1) Bought one at a Gun Show in Las Vegas in 1995. Apparantly it was an import from Korea around this time frame. Had the late --stamped-- Rear adjustable Sight.
Used this rifle in 1997 & 1998 to get 2 nice Mule Deer Bucks.
2) Bought one at a Gun Show in Salt Lake City in 1998. Had the 'original'
flip-style rear sight. Stock was properly cartouched. No import marks so it's hard to tell the story on this one.
This one is 'me' pride & joy. :p
3) Bought from a local Gun Store in 2003. Nice shape, but import-marked.
Had the late -- milled -- Rear adjustable Sight.
I scoured the United States & found the parts I needed to put the imported 2 Inland's back to there somewhat & original WWII-configuration.
Yeah, it cost me more in the long run, but just wasn't quite as fun as it would have been had I bought the rifle(s) outright in the 1st place.
So, I love my Carbines & that's all to it.... :D

I have a Winchester and an Underwood, both post-war reworks but nice condition. They're great fun to shoot, and I think soft-point ammo would make them a good defensive weapon.

Agreed. Like this commercial load for example.

I've used both the FMJ's & Soft-Points. Both kinds took out deer, so I don't know which is better. :)
And...YES...we are allowed to use FMJ's in my state for hunting. :BangHead:
Take care...H-B
