A this day in history kinda thing. The Mystery Mauser was the Portugese Model 1904 Mauser Vergueiro rifle. The crest was the crown with the C I under it representing King Carlos the first. 1908: Carlos I, king of Portugal, is assassinated along with his eldest son, following increased pressure by Portuguese statesman Francisco Franco.

Just a little tidbit of info.:)

Great tidbit of history. I would sure like one of the M1904 in the original caliber, just don't see them. Maybe even the 8mm later conversion. I gave up on acquiring the 1941 m98 Portuguese contract. Just too much money. I've got some of that Portugee blood in me and thought it might be neat to have an acestral Mauser.
