Hi Folks, I'm new here and could use some help to ID this holster from an estate. It looks like a Luger holster to me..but all of them I've seen have a strap that angles down to a buckle, where this has the flap over the brass pin. This is stamped 1936 and 47 & 25. Any help appreciated. Bobby

Welcome to the Forums, Bobby.
Your holster is indeed for a Luger pistol. It is for the 06/34 Banner Portuguese GNR (Guardia Nacional Republicana) (National Guard of the Republic) Luger.
These Lugers bear the GNR over the chamber top and the toggle bears the Mauser "Banner". It is generally accepted that only 564 of these Lugers were manufactured and procured. So if each pistol was supplied with a holster and accesossories, not very many are to be found.
These are 1906 Pattern Lugers in 7.65mm parabellum caliber with 4-3/4 inch barrels. The Portuguese designation for these pistols is Mo. 935. Contract was placed in 1935 and delivery was in Sept. 1935.
Trust this information is of use.

Thanks for the welcome folks, and the overwhelming amount of information! This holster and a couple old Luger clips and a Luger double clip pouch were part of the remains of an estate I acquired in a labor for remains swap. While I am an avid outdoorsman with many firearms, I'm not a collector of any, except for what feels comfortable for protection and hunting. These items I have will probably find their way to gunbroker.com or eBay for sale. (If interested...watch for them!) Again I thank you Blind Hog & Wm Roy for the welcome and information. May God bless & protect U.S.A., & our boys in the military. And with the holidays approaching let's remember "Jesus tis the reason for the season".

Hi Bobby,
Welcome to this Forum. A great bunch of guys and a very broad, very expert base of knowledge among the members as evidenced by Blind Hog's data on your holster. As he said this is a comparatively rare luger variation. If you decide to sell the items you mentioned, you might consider going to the Luger Forum and asking for some advice on values or even using their trader board to sell. Here is an URL that will lead you to an interesting auction coming up on a holster like the one you have (plus matching luger): http://luger.gunboards.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13103 . This URL will also put you on the Luger website. If you would like some info on your magazines let me know and I will try to help.

Thanks Don, I'll keep an eye on that auction...I'm not real computer savvy...but I found it. Here are the two clips I have. The first one looks like stainless (it is magnetic though) and it has no marks at all anywhere. The second one has the P.08 and the marks on the end. These are both the same size and the 7.65mm fits them perfectly. Thanks in advance.

Bobby,
The second one is a Type 4 Army (German Army that is) fxo code magazine probably issued with a 41 dated byf Code P.08 Luger. The 574u would be the serial number of the Luger and the + signifies it was the extra magazine issued with the pistol (the primary magazine would be marked 574u without the +). The first magazine appears to be a Type 1 Army magazine. These were issued with K, G and 1936 dated Lugers, 1934-1936, and were normally marked in the same fashion as your second magazine in addition to having an acceptance stamp. The absence of markings on the base suggests to me that the base might have been a replacement. Alternatively, I don't know whether Banner Portugese GNR's might have been issued with Type 1 magazines with unmarked bases in which case the magazine might have been issued with the pistol that went with your holster. Type 1's were issued in the same time frame as your holster. Blind Hog or other experts on the Luger Forum website I cited above might be able to shed more light on this. In any event, there is certainly a market for these magazines among collectors.
