I've purchased one of these conversions, due to some strange, recent affliction with such things. The one before, is one of the "Zulu" 12 ga conversions, converted from the French Tabatiere rifle, which I like very much.

This one is supposedly modified from a .577 calber muzzle loader, first having the Snyder breech loading action added, in the late 19th century, then being drilled out to 24 ga shotgun and used by the British empire for forraging in the 20's.

That's all the parial information that I have. Do any of you have any experience with these shotguns?

Here are a couple pics of the "Zulu".

Never seen one before. Nice wood too. How much does it weigh?

Now that's pretty nifty!

The Zulu is fairly heavy, probably 8 lbs or so, and the neat thing is that the sights are offset. You tust turn the thing 10 degrees or to to the right to get the hammer out of the way to be able to see the sights.

The 24ga on the other hand is a similar conversion with the Snider action. The problem is that's it's apparently not a 24 ga "forager" like it's supposed to be. The 24 ga shotshell won't chamber. I made a chamber cast and found that the chamber is bottlenecked, and tapered.

I think the bore was drilled, but the finish reaming was never done to accept the 24 ga shell.

Probably this hasn't been fired since 1920 when the modifications were made.

My decision now is whether to ream the chamber, or use the 24 ga shotshells, resized and tapered and fire a .577 cast bullet in a smooth bore.
