hey folks,
New to the forum here, it looks like a great forum, it reminds of Archery talk forum.
I was given 4 WW2 sidearms (?) to clean up and find info on them from my cousin. So far I can only find a little info about them. I will also try and post pics.
1st is a Walther P38 with holster,

2nd one is a star f target 22 cal

3rd one is a H and R (the american double action)???

4th is a Webley ric

I do not know much about these old firearms other than that the P38 is a 9mm and there are millions of them made.

The webley and the H n R need some work and replacement parts does anyone know where I can get parts for them? Also does any one know of any of the value of these old shooters. Or should I just not try and clean them up and just keep them as is. Any info or input would be appreciated. I would like to get looking good again and give them back to her in maybe a display case as a gift. They were in her late husbands family for quite a while.
Any info would help tremendously
thanks Jay

Hi Jay,
Welcome to the Forum. I’ll have a go at trying to provide some of the answers to your questions, although the only one of your pistols I collect is the P.38. First some general opinions that some of the other Forum members may want to elaborate on:
1. The value of each of your pistols is determined like any collectible, mostly by rarity and condition. If you could provide photos, descriptions and markings we could give you a better estimate of value.
2. As far as cleaning them up is concerned, it depends on how you define “cleaning up” and their value, whether this is a good idea. A pistol in excellent collectible condition should not be messed with. A pristine professionally refinished P.38 is generally worth less than an average condition collectible that is original. A shooter (non-collectible) - no problem, do whatever you want to make it look like you want.
3. Most collectors shy away from displaying their guns openly in their homes. Unfortunately in today’s world that can be an invitation to thieves.
4. You can get a tremendous amount of information on these guns just by surfing the Internet. For example a search for “Star F Target pistol” turned up a website - http://www.star-firearms.com/firearms/guns/f/index.shtml - with a wealth of information on this pistol.

As to your guns individually (comments on dollar values are based on the Blue Book of Gun Values, which is useful as a guide, however the marketplace can change fast and market values can differ significantly from the Blue Book values; check gun auction sites such as http://www.gunbroker.com/):
 The Walther P.38 is generally very collectible. Even though over a million were made, the large number of identifiable variants within that number creates the rarity and desirability collectors desire. Values can range from a couple of hundred dollars for a poor condition shooter, to several thousands of dollars.
 A Star Model F is worth anywhere from under $100 to up to $400 unless there is something unusual about it (such as engraving for example).
 A Harrington & Richardson American does not have a great deal of value, generally can be found in decent condition for under $100.
 A Webley RIC can be quite collectible, again depending on condition, etc. Possibly $1,000 for an excellent example, $3-400 for an average one.

The Internet is the best place to get info on parts. One of the biggest parts houses for guns is Numrich Gun Parts Corp. They have an very good website at
http://www.e-gunparts.com/. There are some excellent Forums that specialize in certain types of guns that could be helpful to you. The P.38 Forum can be found at http://forums.p38forum.com/forums/index.php?sid=03b4be2acf5516610a52ed2c3d16cd3d. Hope this is of some assistance. Provide some photos and markings and we can give you more.
