Last year a friend and I decided to start an annual meeting of gun collectors at my farm shop here in Cleveland, MS. Our first meeting was the first weekend in February on Friday and Saturday. We had on site supper Friday night and dinner the next day. We are planning the same for the first weekend in February this year which will be the 1st and 2nd. I would like to invite all to come. Altho he and I are basic Japanese collectors we had others last year and expect more variation this year. Last year we had 35 people show up from 7 states.

Cleveland is 110 miles south of Memphis, Tn. on US Hway 61. Its a town of about 15K and my shop is just outside the city limits. There are 5 nice motels within 4 miles of the shop. You can bring something to show, sell or swap. There will be at least 9 tables for displays. We want to keep our hobby alive because its hard to collect WW1 and WW11 rifles and not know some of the history of men who fought for freedom. rcb.

......I'd really love to-but between being so far away and no way to get time off work-'specially at that time of the year,I guess I'll just have to wait for the posts and the pictures, sad to say...:( ....I'd love to meet you in person and have you look over the TK Series 35 I got from Frank and fill me in on the nitty gritty...:grinning-thumbsup:

Sweet, thanks for the offer. But if I come all the way down there to swap stories & rifles I'll have to take a deer on your land while I'm there! Or not??

In the early 90's I was in the National Guard in Florida. It seems like just about every summer we would head to Camp Shelby MS. The biggest thing I remember about that 'base' was that there were deer...everywhere!

DoGolden, Camp Shelby is about 4 hours south of here. They have a very nice WW11 museam there now. Better I think than the D-Day one in New Orleans. But I think the D-Day has been enlarged since I was there. riceone

I'm gonna try my best to make it. At this point, I'd say it's about 75/25 that I'll be there.

Time is getting short so it wont be long now. Another fellow Swiss collector and myself are planning on being there to show some Swiss goodies.

Last year it was snowing lightly when I arrived and the weather was crisp and just right to gather around the heater and talk guns. Hope to see ya'll there.:)

I had not thought of an airplane but did think of someone putting a 500 gallon tank in the back of a pickup or some truck with a huge tank. Years back I had a 1974 Ford that got 7 mpg and I had an auxillary 74 gl. tank on it. Could go almost 500 miles before I switched to the seat tank to get to the gas station. roy

Like the guy with the Rolls Royce who was asked to turn the engine off while it was being filled with fuel cos the car was gaining on the pump :p :p
So, looks like the airfare is a non starter then Roy:rolleyes:

Never dawned on me till just now but by burning that much gas it was keeping all the lubrication burned off the cylinder walls. I put rings in at in the 30K range, replaced the motor with a short block in the 60K's and put rings in that motor in the 90's and wrecked it soon after. It had a 460 V8 motor with 4 barrel carb and more power than you could ever use, had it over a 100 one time. Prettiest truck I ever had, painted pale yellow on top darker yellow in the middle and pale yellow on the bottom. Wish I had kept a picture. Never saw but one other painted like that. Had dual exhaust, now I want the quietest vehicle I can get. rcb

Well.......no way that I'm gonna be able to make it. I've got to work on Friday and won't be able to sneak out early. That means driving 8hrs after I get off at 6-7pm or getting up REALLY early and driving in Saturday morning. I've then of course got an 8 hour drive back on Sunday and I'll be totally exhausted.

Even if my wife came along to split the driving, she's still got jet lag from her long flight from Turkey, so I'm gonna have to pass.

LoLo and Ted both had nice Swiss displays - very educational to me. When they got here they wanted to know if we had any nice rifles or just Japanese junk.:) Had to admit I only had Japanese Junk. Its nice to spend a couple of days with good people of like mind. rcb.

I came away from the meeting in very good spirit. Roy even let me take another T99 home with me for a very good price. I just really got a chance to look it over good this morning and it's very nice. I'm planning on shooting it soon. Thanks again Roy for the hospitality and a great time. Hopefully I'll see you again in Birmingham.

There's another held in conjunction with the Forks of the Delaware, Allantown, PA show in the fall - M.A.J.C., Mid-Atlantic Japanese Collectors. There's usually three papers given and "a good time is had by all."

The Banzai publication holds a meeting for members and non members in conjunction with the Show of Shows in Louisville, KY. It is held on Thursday night at the Golden Corral in a room reserved for the group. There are usually talks and items to view.

The Langley shoot, pistols to mgs, will be held on April 5th W. of Wickenburg AZ in the desert. Long range shooting is possible. Anyone interested can contact Arisakadogs for info.

The Blevins shoot in NE AL is over the Memorial Day weekend, again pistols to MGs. No other info available at this time.

Hey you "gentlemen," all it takes is one fellow with a garage or basement to hold a meeting, invite the local collectors in your area, get the thing going. That's what Roy did. One or two percent are "doers," the rest are "sit on their butts and wait for the doers!" Don't wish you could attened, if you live too far away, hold your own meetings.. Have it in the summer in your back yard, picnic-style. The bottom line is to get the other collectors in your area together.

All you have to do is have a place and put the word out. Its sort of like use to be in the army - put four fellows out on four side of town and by midnight they will all be together at the same place. Folks will come. I guess Cleveland is the most isolated spot as far as military collectors - everyone that attended was from over 100 miles away. riceone
