View Full Version : Straightening Bolt Handle
This is a bolt out of a T30 rifle that some one had some fun:mad: with at an earlier time. Three pictures show the process of straightening it out. rcb.

Bearing in mind all the work on that bolt, first to bugger it up then to straighten it again, what does that do to the molecular structure of the metal. Is it now brittle?

There'in lies the trick I'm sure.
Watched a show on TV the other night about the making of traditional japanese swords. Very interesting. They then tried to make a sword that was as good using modern methods. They failed!!!
The japanese master using only his eye the color of the heated metal and hand tools managed to make a blade that was simply remarkable!!
Brittle, I don't know. I have only seen one bolt handle break off and that was because of a load of 44 gr. of Bullseye pistol powder behind a 170 gr. bullet. The barrel went out the front, receiver split, lungs set back on bolt and inside receiver and bolt handle broke off. You do have to heat the handle to almost liquid to straighten or it will crack. Very few are messedup this bad. I doubt this rifle will ever be shot again. riceone.
