Oh brother!!!:BangHead:
But I would like to know why the guy was changing the mag with a round in the chamber.

Sounds like slam-firing, not bump firing.
Also, doesn't sound to me like he changed the mag with a round chambered.
He went to put in another magazine and the rifle shot three times, then jammed
Unless the magazine was in the weapon, it would have only fired once. Sounds like it slamfired when he dropped the bolt on the new magazine.
One other point I think the author got wrong is....
Mr. Olofson was charged with 'Unlawful transfer of a machinegun.'. Not possession, not even Robert Kiernicki was charged with possession
If I am not mistaken, it is not a federal crime to "possess" an automatic weapon, but it is a crime to manufacture or transfer one without the appropriate licensing & taxes beng paid etc.... I think if this had not been a "borrowed" weapon, they would have had a harder time making the case.
I think there has to be more to this story than WND is reporting. They quote a lot of hearsay, but don't cite court documents which should be readily available to reporters.

You know what you're probably right there Lee.
But I still wonder if bump firing wouldn't get you in the same mess?
I'll bet you're right as well there has to be more to this.

IMHO bump-firing is just a dangerous and expensive way to make noise, but hey, whatever floats your boat.... ;)

I'd agree.......... not something I've ever tried to do. But I know alot of guys think it's cool.
To me I kinda like actually trying to hit what I'm shooting at......... ;)

"IMHO bump-firing is just a dangerous and expensive way to make noise,"
I couldn't agree more, and when it's done in my presence at a range I usually get rather ill about it. If they want to do it by themselves, then fine, but not around other folks. I think it is an immature and utterly unsafe thing to do with any semi-auto firearm.
