Went to the Washington Arms Collectors show in Puyallup (in case you were wondering, its pronounced "Pew-al-up") and came home with this sweety of a sporterized US Krag:

It started life as a Model 1892 2nd Type Altered to 1896 Standards Rifle and is dated 1894. As you can see, the barrel was cut back to 22 inches and a 1903 Springfield front sight was installed. The stock is the original military, that was cut down and had a pistol grip very carefully added, similar to the Swiss 96/11 Schmidt-Rubins. Nice craftsmanship:

The bore is in great shape and the bluing is around 90%. I'd be more than willing to use this as a deer rifle. Whoever did the work on it in the 20s or 30s did a nice job!

Welcome to the Krag club. I love mine, although it was in rough shape when I found it. The work on that stock is very good, wish I'd thought about the pistol grip when I redid mine. I may go back and redo it. In case your interested here is a sight for a scope mount, I got one for mine very easy to install. A little inletting required on the front mount but rock solid. Make sure you get the risers though.

I have one like that also, without the grip modification, but it has a Weaver scope and mount that is obviously professionally installed.

Some time ago when I acquired it, the reason was the scope its self. Having done some research "back then", with Weaver, I was told that the scope was the 1st model they manufactured in, and only in 1930, their 1st year in business.

Its a fine and accurate rifle that I got cheap, one of my favorites!

I think that photobucket is just having problems. They will probably show back up later.
