Hi Yall...
I dont know much bout these, but I picked up a "Sporterized by Kimber" M96 Carl Gustov (I think thats the right name) in 6.5x55 last week. Got her cleaned up and new clothing for the stock. Here she is..
Before

After

My question..
What do I need to know about these. Any quirks I need to watch out for? I understand that I need to watch out for excess pressure, and that its max handling is about 42,000cup? What kinda twist do these have? How/why were they manufatured and what for??

I will say, one thing I REALLY like is the cock on closing, once I got her cleaned up n oiled she felt SO smooth, just as good as the 1903 we used to have..

So, enlighten me! :grinning-thumbsup:

that's quite a change on the stock! I like it. You might think that me being a mod in this section that I'd have an answer for you....well, you thought wrong, I have never even held a Swede, but I'll find something that might help till one of the more knowledgeable fellas come along.

6.5x55 = my favorite cartridge! Nice punch w/mild recoil. It'll knock down just about anything in North America too! Right now I only have a matching 1903 CG (Carl Gustav). It's a tack driver too.

I've been talking about getting another 6.5x55. This time, for target shooting or possibly hunting.

Nice rifle. Thanks for sharing.

the m96 swede's are awesome. once you get the range on the rear sight down they are tack drivers. i have a 1920 carl gustav all matching. i bought it back in 97 or 98 for $69.00. I am thinking of getting a barreled action to make me a sport from as well. Should I hit the lotto, i want to get me a m38 carbine.

I wanted a sporter version but did not want to alter any of my military models, even the mismatched 1898 CG.
Finally I found the answer, I got a Husqvarna Mod 46, caliber is different 9.3x57, brass and bullets are available so no problem. The one I got is a 1929 vintage, with great wood and good metal finish. I has a fairly long barrel, 25-26" with barrel band for sling swivel. and rear leaf sight on another raised band. Stock looked a little strange at first, rounded pistol grip which is checkered and no checkering on forend. I quickly came to like this. Comb of stock is offset for a right handed shooter so cheek weld is light and eyes line up with sights easily. Even with the long mid weight barrel this is a light handy rifle. The action looks to be pure 96 although by some reports it is a mod 94, if so I cannot tell the difference. None of the parts are numbered as on the military models. The crown appears on the magazine floorplate, follower, triggerguard/magazine and bolt handle. Serial number is on the barrel.
I have been under the weather with a cold and have not had a chance to shoot it yet but think it will be every bit as good as my military model
