While that "is" basically an 1891 Argentine carbine, using that name is incorrect due to another 1891 carbine, or at least confusing.
This correct name / designation for this one is an "engineers" carbine! There's a differnce.

Now see here is why I like this thread. I learn stuff..... it was identified as a Argi Carbine. Please if you or sc could point out the differences I would appreciate it.............
I almost purchased one of these at a gun show a year or so back..... I passed it up because I had just purchased 2 spanish m1916's and I knew the wife would go nuts...... now I wish I would have taken the heat....;)

OK, notice the bayonet lug that has been added between the nose cap, and the lower band.
It's an attachment that allowed the "Engineers" carbine to use a modified 1879 rolling block bayonet.
The normal 1891 carbine, some say Cavalry, and some artilirie carbine had no bayonet attachment, as it was considered those troups didn't need one.
The model of 1909 carbine aka short rifle was done the same way. The engineers carbine was the only one that accepted the bayo. While the M1891 bayo (the one with the allow handles) would fit the 1909 rifle and engineers carbines, the 1909 had it's own bayo which had wood grips.
All were normally 7.65 X 53mm Belgian / Argie caliber.
Really fine rifles and a very good game cartridge. Many commercial and sport rifles have been chambered in the 7.65 Belgian cartridge.

that's why i went with the belgian. i have an 1891 argentine carbine, and the band with the bayonet lug is not present on it. i was just going with the best guess:grinning-thumbsup:
i like these threads, too. now i know what another one looks like. y'all have a good day, Keith

Yep...Argentine 1891 Engineers Carbine. I've had a few Argies over the years, so I was familiar with that one. :cool-smiley-1:
That's why I said someone was "Close" ;)
