I've acquired a Savage model 16BSS .300 WSM (Win. Short Mag.) at a friend’s of the NRA banquet in 2003. This gun is part of a limited edition and its serial number is G160001 (I believe that this is the first in the limited edition series). It has an NRA medallion emblazoned in its stock. This rifle has never been fired. I am seeking any information about this rifle. I have checked the Savage Arms website, this rifle's model number with its combination of stainless steel barrel and laminated stock does not exist. Thank you in advance.

I have no help to offer, but for a rifle that doesn't exsist it sure is pretty!

The only way to obtain provenance on this commemorative is to obtain a "letter" from Savage on it.This usually costs about $50.

This rifle has never been fired.

Surely that is impossible as it must have been tested prior to being sold? I believe that you don't have to proof a weapon in the US, is that right? Here if it's sold it has to have gone through a proof house and be stamped as such.

I suppose it would be worth $50 for a letter of authenticity but I don't see why they should charge for something as easy to ID as this.

Lastly, and I am sure I am in a minority, but if it were mine I would shoot it because that is what it is for, not putting in mothballs for 20 years and then selling. There might not be a market in 20 years :devil-smiley-1:
