I'm looking to buy my first mauser...not looking to spend a lot, but just to see if this is something that I would enjoy collecting and building up a collection of. I know that y'all know a lot about them, so what would be a good first mauser. Fire away!

I only have one but it is a cracking piece and shoots very well. Its a 1943 K98k which was a Russian capture that I restored the wood on to the original finish.

I also have a Chinese copy in .22lr which also shoots well.

Here are 'Father & Son' before I did the woodwork on the K98

I must do some pics of the completed job with the original finish

....best bet for a reasonable price would be an RC Mauser, but even these are going up in price and getting harder to come by-except maybe gunshows or private sellers, and the auction sites...if you are looking for a shooter an RC (Russian Capture) is the way to go...:grinning-thumbsup: ...$200 and up.........the Header picture on top of this forum shows a couple of mine....well,actually just one now, since I traded the one on the top to Herr Messer......

....whereabouts in Ohio's heart art thou???....there's a few of us here...

Just outside of Mansfield, halfway between Cleveland and Columbus...I took a look at a few this afternoon at a local Dunham's....way overpriced, but worth taking a look at because they always have them there, and I have friends that can hold on to the ones with decent barrels and actions in the back. Whereabouts are the rest of y'all in the great land of the Buckeyes and shredded chicken sandwiches?

.....born and raised in Cleveland, over the years have lived all over northeast Ohio from Geneva to Parma.....had to move to southwest Ohio because of my job...we live here-but the Cleveland area is still home(despite its politics:xxrotflmao: )...over the last 18 years we regularly travel up there since the rest of the family is there-so your neighborhood is familiar....Mansfield is where we usually make the 'pitstop' for food-and the ladies that have small bladders...:xxrotflmao: ;)

down here a shredded chicken sandwich dang well better have bar-b-que sauce on it! welcome to the forum there Big Bear! My first mauser was a Polish Mauser. Keep your eyes open and something will pop up. I still don't have a German Mauser, but I do have a Polish, an Argie, and a couple of Turks. They're all a lot of fun! and i might add that my two Turks are really great shooters as well.

Another welcome to you also Big Bear. I'm just west of you at Lima. By the way we have a gun show on the 1st and 2nd of Nov at the fairgrounds, $4 at the door and about 400 tables.

While you are at Dunhams looking at mausers you want to stay clear of the mitchels mausers as they are renumbered and spit shined but still a russian capture and over priced.

Thanks for all the good advice, gents. I may just have to stop out your way in lima, Messer, that's right after payday, so probably a good time to take a look at what mid-ohio has in the way of guns hanging around, not to mention I have some things that I may need to get rid of. A .30-06 in particular that I got for a steal, but have no use for, and no real need for.
