Recently at a gunshow, I looked at a M-S rifle in .308 marked Mdl 1912. I know it couldn't be from 1912 of course, because the .308 started in the early 1950s. The owner told me that the rifle is from the 1950s. I cannot find in my copy of guns of the world any civilian M-S made in .308 or any reference to a Mdl 1912. This got me to wondering if this rifle might actually be a custom conversion from one of the M-S military rifles usde by the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania. I forgot to check to see if it has a rotary magazine. Can anyone offer advice on this, or a website where I might be able to find out if this is an actual M-S factory hunting rifle. I think it is still available, as everyone else at the show seemed more interested in the ARs, Ruger14s, and AKs. About 1956 I wanted a M-S Mdl 1952 so bad I could taste it, so after all these years I may get there. Thanks for any and all help.

Thaks Stan, You have been a really great help.
I think I'll wait for a 1903 in 6.5x54; I know it will be more money ( they want $800 for this .308), but it will be a M-S factory rifle, and I think I'll like the lighter rifle much more. I really like the 6.5x55 Swede, the 6.5x54 isn't far behind that and should be all I'll need.
