Now what the heck do I do with it? It was my neighbors and he passed away at 89 a few days back. His family just gave it to me because they are so anti-gun I think. It has Army markings and I want to put a round down range badly. Just to see.

If you're looking to sell it, post it in the Trading Post and make sure to read the rules for posting weapons for sale!

I dont think that would be wise. I know nothing of the weapons history as far as previous owners go if any, if it was used in a crime at some point, or anything else. That would be a risk to whomever bought it. If their state required some kind of registration. Washington dont and I am sure their are some others, but everyone should be going thru a dealer. Althoe why they require that on guns over 60 years old is beyond me. Stupid government. I miss the good days of just getting something out of a sears catalog or popular mechanics. Shipped right to your door.

Mike
With an attitude like yours the anti gunners are going to pass that new bill, and many others coming down the pike, waiting to be brought out of committee. I believe it is HR 06 or something like that and a total registration bill.

A pistol, unless traded within state, must use some kind of FFL to transfer.

Mike,

I said read the rules!! Rules clearly state that weapons must pass through a FFL holder!

You guys must be reading some other post?
"with an attitude like mine" and "read the rules"??
Where the heck does that come from?
Because I said I miss the good ole days of sears catalogs? Or calling the government stupid?

I did not know this was an offshoot of the Virginia sportsmen for Obama. Perhaps some of you need to re-read what I wrote?

I think where this one may have gotten off track was the statement "Shipped right to your door." It could be interpreted that Mike was offering the Beretta 1934 for sale with shipping right to your door. My interpretation was that he was saying "I miss the good days of just getting something out of a sears catalog or popular mechanics where the gun would be shipped right to your door."

It comes from a Founding member of the GCF. There is no need for profanity. as far as the Va Sportsmen for obama, that falls under a personal attack to me and is flaming. Not to mention that this is a non-political gun site. Please refrain from personal attacks whether you were misunderstood or not.

I interpreted it the same way as Rugerwheels did and I think that's the way Mike meant it.Heck,I miss the days of having the freedom to order firearms to your door also.

but everyone should be going thru a dealer.

If I misunderstood the real context of the post I will apologize for what I said, but this is what I took offense to as it sounded like the antis wanting to close the so called gun show loop hole.

On a handgun sale in most states you can do a face to face sale but when you cross state lines you must use a FFL in the purchaser's state.

Things would be nice if we could go back to pre 68 laws but I never bought any guns till 1969.

my issue was with the way the responces were met.

Notwithstanding whether or not there was a misunderstanding about shipping of guns, I agree you have a point Greg.

You win the cookie Rugerwheels. And I would never sell a weapon to anyone I did not know regardless what state they were in.
Look guys, I am not an "old gun collector" my guns are all extreamly useful, with the exception of this .380 and an original Walker that has been in the family since 1862. I found this site doing a google looking for info on the Beretta. Maybe it is not for me. I have served 22 years in the 7th and 5th groups,(well my first four years in the 82nd) 1983-2005.
The Virginia sportsmen comment was deserved if you know of that group and its stance on weapons and the 2nd amendment, not everyone thinks the 2nd is about shooting clays on sunday afternoon. I understand this is not a political board, but you are dealing with guns, so expect some.
And thanks, I was just about to go off on a tangent (rant)

Another cookie if you know who mike is? Look at the avatar.

Avatar: Colonel Mike Hoare. Thomas Michael Hoare was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1920. Hoare served in North Africa as an armor officer in the British military during World War II, and achieved the rank of Captain. After the war, he emigrated to Durban, South Africa, where among other employment, he ran safaris. Hoare led mercenary troops in Africa twice (1960 and 1964), and mounted an aborted coup attempt in the Seychelles Islands in November of 1981. Hoare was arrested and tried by the South African government for air piracy in the commandeering of an Air India jet which landed at Mahe Airport in the middle of the coup attempt. Hoare was sentenced to ten years in prison, but was released after three years. lives today in South Africa I believe. Served as Technical Adviser for the 1978 film "The Wild Geese" starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris

Well done. Were do I send the cookie? I am a man of my word.
And the COL passed away in 2006 I think.
I met him in 1998 at Bragg and got one of his books signed.
I wish there were more like him. Or at least some guys that would want to re-take Rhodesia and make it the great country it once was.
