Loaded some rounds for the M39 yesterday and went and tried them out this morning. Used 44 grains of IMR 4895, 165 grain .308 Speer Spitzer in Grafs brass with Rem. 9 1/2 primers. A couple of pics follow; the first target was at 50 paces, and I ran 6 thru to see where it was hitting, and then made a sight adjustment, and then shot 2 more to verify.

Felt ok with that 8 shots, so moved out to 100 paces and shot the remaining 12. I am really pleased at how this first load is performing, and will probably stick with it for now. These are the first 20 rounds thru this rifle for me!

txpete, thanks for the tip. propstrike, nice handle! that was at the Houston city dump that was closed a few years back. It's on Scout Lake road. First right, I think, after you go thru the metropolis, off the Parks hwy. What happened to the 54 deal?

iquitos, deal is still on, boss. I just got the Garand itch---just not the one I really wanted---but then again!

I use Hotshot 180 gr. S.P. ammo in my M-39, one ragged hole at 100 yards too.

Rockman, I haven't seen any Hotshot in this caliber for sale up here yet. I have used the Swede Hotshot, it is good stuff. Propstrike, where did you get that Garand from? Is the 206 good to go? I am coming up early to fly; may need to camp in the living room.

iquitos, you need not camp in the living room, lots of space available. 206 will be good to go as of tonight. Got the Garand from The Trading Post in ANC, all Springfield, including stock w/cartouche 5-45 barrel. I REALLLLLY wanted the Winchester at the little shop in Wasilla, but he wasn't open and I got the itch real bad. Still got eyes for the 54 though.

Propstrike: I was out at the "range" again today; it is a right turn off Parks onto ZERO LAKE. It has a street sign, bout a mile and a half out of town towards Denali. Go up half mile, on your left, you'll see where the old dump was.

I see 'hotshot' ammo mentioned........... my m38 swede doesn't like the stuff.... in fact the only hotshot I've had any luck with was the .303 brit....... my k98 (I have 2 but one has never made it to the range) absolutely HATES the stuff and so does my vz24???:(

The rifles I have flunked the "Pepsi taste test." Not so sure if I ever shot HOT SHOT. But I have cycled some other low-end brand stuff with not many problems.
