Svedish M1894/14 Mauser Carbine. Cannot be identified as Oberndorf or Carl Gustafs without looking at the receiver. There are 3 bayonets that fit, and likewise the bayonet identification cannot be obtained without additional views.

Spuds,

If you are correct, I bet it's an Obie.

Well........ the rifle was ID'ed as a model 94 carbine...... but after looking at photos of both I believe you are correct! I wasn't looking for an ID on the bayo............:D

Please elaborate for us on the differences in the 94 & 94/14?

Thanks!:D :D

The M1894 Swede carbine was modified in / about 1914 with the attachment for the bayo.

PS, and I'd say is a Gustaf!

These are very fine carbines. I have been fortunate enough over the years to acquire one of each. They seem to be quite scarse these days, fetching a premium in price.

Many were imported by IO, IIRC, back in the 50's. They ground / scrubbed the receivers and remarked them G33/50 or something like that, vastly reducing their collector value.

Also, most are found with a 3/8" to 1/2" extension welded on the end of the barrel. The originals were just a bit too short for import at that time.

Later, the regulation was relaxed, but most pieces that would ever be available for import had alread been received.

Is the extension what I'm seeing on this particular gun?

Yes it certainly is. The ironic thing is that the extensions look natural, and are infact an improvement in looks.

An original appears to have something missing, with the barrel being flush with the surface of the nose cap.

PS: I should also add that when looking at one of these close, the weld can not normally be seen. What is seen appears to be a counter bore, in the barrel its self since the extension has a larger hole than the bore of the barrel.

Minor correction, InterArms imported them and marked them G33/50, not IO.

Sam Cummings of Interarmco imported these guns from Sweden. The order was for 10,000 of them. Some more came in later from Finland and you will find them "SA" stamped. These "SA" stamped ones are very rare. They stopped making these in 1936 after manufacturing well over 115,000 of these. The 1930s dated guns are very rare.
