Hey, guys & gals, I'm new to the forum, but not to much else! haha. Just have a quick question regarding value of a collector's item. I recently acquired an unfired 1976 Colt Python .357 blue, 4" bbl What is the effect of firing this revolver on its value? Does "unfired" really count for that much in value? I know the original owner and trust his accounting. Thanks for you time. david

In this part of PA, a Python with those credentials will sell for over $1200...fired and showing that it has been fired, will knock about $200 off. If you have the ORIGINAL box and papers, add another 100 to 150 bucks. 4"ers seem to command a bit of a premium.

Thanks for getting back, 32 mag. I have a styrofoam fitted box with a wood grain colored cardboard slip over cover. There is a little booklet inside, but the ends are missing on the cardboard box. I don't have the original receipt, but I will ask the guy if he has it somewhere. That would be fun! He paid $340! I'm dying to shoot it, the action seems very smooth. Looks like everyone who handled the gun pulled the trigger, as there is a pretty good drag line around the cylinder. Not damage, just use. Thanks again.

Oldtrojan-
Good luck. With a "pretty good drag line", the valuation will drop a bit, maybe 200 smakers. The drag line on these Colts comes from cocking and then thumb settling the hammer. The cylinder bolt under these conditions doesn't fully set below the frame and drags on the cylinder as it rotates.
