Hi, I'm looking for some help.
While sorting through some items I inherited from my father,I came upon the following:
A brown cardboard box labeled 'WALTHER' AUTOM.PISTOLE CAL. 6.35 No.637446'. The serial # is hand written in the white space.
Inside was a Model 9 w/the original instruction booklet. Hand written inside the booklet appears to be the price 27.50 and the date 9/27/33. It is in excellent condition.
The pistol looks like it just came from the factory. Blue is deep, no rust, no wear mark. Grips are perfect.
I want to insure it but have no idea what it may worth.

Any ideas/suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you.

Scopeman96,

Sorry for not responding sooner, but I have been away from the site for ten days, surf fishing NC Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras and just returned home last night.

What a wonderful family heirloom and remembrance of your Father. The Model 9 is a neat vintage pistol and quite collectable. The latest edition of the "Blue Book of Gun Values" has a price range of $140 to $650 based on percentage of remaning original finish from 60% to 100%. There are other factors that would add a premium to value, such as whether the pistol is crown over N or eagle over N proofed.
The box and booklet also adds a premium, I believe around $100 to $150. Of course depending on their condition.
Note that prices listed are considered retail and not what a vendor or collector of such vintage pistols would in all likelyhood pay.
Here's a link to a site discussion of an example I recently acquired. http://guncollectorsforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5157

Thank you for posting your enquiry to this site. Our site members would enjoy photos of your pistol, if possible.

Hi Scopeman,
Based on Dieter H. Marschall's book "Walther Pistols Models 1 Through P99" the Model 9 serial ranges were about 410000 to 652000 and 190000N to 198000N, with the "N" serial suffix on pistols made after 1939. If your 637446 is the SN of your gun, it looks a bit late for 1933 manufacture unless annual manufacturing rates tailed off in the late 1930's which is entirely possible. There is a 90% Model 9 on GunBroker that has been listed for several weeks with a starting price of $575 and no bids http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=140625907 Based on your description of condition I believe the upper end of Blind Hog's estimated range is valid and since you are apparently planning to keep the pistol and insure it I would think that $700-800 is a reasonable amount of coverage. You could go to http://luger.gunboards.com/index.php in the Section
German: German Mfg. (non-P08) Pistols & Holsters and solicit more opinions. You could also request there for Mr. Marschall to advise year of manufacture.

Thank you Blind Hog and Ruger Wheels,

There is a crown over N on the right side just below the slide.
The same mark is also on the slide.

Still working the pics. I really do appreciate the information.

And Blind Hog, don't EVER apologize for going fishing, I hope you had
a great time.

These were marked Crown over N until January 1940, Eagle over N thereafter.

Hi. I tried to post the photos last night.
The files were too big for the forum. However, if you send me
an Email to neastind@yahoo.com ,I will forward them.
