The picture came from Blind Hog........... before I give out too much information...... we need to have an ID................:D :D :D
Of course it is a carbine and carbines were issued to many different types of troops...... I'm sure Blind Hog will fill us in ONCE the ID has been made.......
If you have any ideas as to what you have fire away................:D :D :D :cool-smiley-1:

It looks like an Engineer's Carbine to me in 8mm. Not sure of the whereabouts or anything.

The Country of Issue would have been somewhat Southern oriented.....;)

this one was fun. There are 2 countries that used the FN Model 24 Carbine. Both were in 7x57mm. Since your clue is "southern" that would make it Mexican. The Yugoslavians also used this model.

My sources show the Mexican with a bent bolt so the "southern" sent me to Mexico.

Well done fr8, Mexican, FN 1924 it is. Here are two pictures, Crest and side rail markings.
Searched for several years before I located this one.

My short mauser has no markings on the ring and it's threaded on the end of the barrel.The ser. # is 00#.Do9esit have any value?
