Hi Andrew! Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service to the Country! We're very happy you found us and hope you like it here.
A Thompson, huh? I can understand the attraction, they are pretty neat. Are you looking for the real deal, full auto, or a semi-auto look alike? A semi-auto version from these fine folks:

will set you back about $2500 for the 1930's look with the drum magazine and vertical fore-grip. The advantage with these is that any gun shop can order it for you, no problem.
Full-auto is a whole 'nother kettle of fish...First off, do you live in a state that allows full-auto ownership? Not all do. Second, how deep are your pockets? I'd expect, and this is just a guess, an early Thompson would run at least fifteen times the price of a current manufacture semi-auto. But they are out there, if you want to go for it. You'll need to find a Class 3 dealer to work with and jump through the paperwork and tax stamp hoops. From what I understand, it is not necessarily a quick process, but a good dealer will help you over the hurdles.
Others will be chiming in here shortly. Again, Welcome!
I live in Ocala Florida, and in the last three months I have seen two of these Tommy guns, one of which had the drum mgazine with it. Oe was at an estate sale and the other was at a roadside yard sale. Both were in excellent condition and both were priced at 1200.00. Keep looking. they are out there
My local gun shop sold one las fall and had 12,500.00 on it. Used police gun. Full auto.
