ok i just got in an unfinished fajin ace varminter stock.
i need to know how laminates react to wood files(not using the rasp on this). i also need to know which is best for this stock as a finish; blo, tung oil, or true oil. these are my only finishes that i have.
where would be best to put the front sling swivel? i mean with all of these vents theres very little meat left to put the stud in.

by the way anyone else whos got one of these notice how HUGE the inletting around the triggerguard is? i like the extra room in the action area BUT...

I wish I had the answers for you SAC but I don't. I have seen those stocks & the inletting is huge as you have stated. I think those stocks are made with the intention of putting heavy, fat, match grade barrels on.

Good luck! Post some pictures when you can.

yaa i got a shilen barrel on the 98/22 action in it. when if i complete this stock making job for my nefew i will start on the 308. ahhhh heck i will probably mess with it a little back and forth.
right now the tiger maple stock has a huge hangup....i put the action too far from the pistol grip....very nice wood and so far decent job shaping but unless the boy is looking for a european stile stock its a bust...have to do another one! this time however i am going to get someone to rough cut it on a machine before i start shaping...thats tough work folks! for my first stock carving it looks pretty good, other than the goof on the inletting the action too far ahead its a nice looking job so far. anyhow i left a message for my brother to stop over and look at it tomarrow.
thaks for hte reply dogbert!

I prefer the 98/22 or VZ24 actions. All in all they seem to be the smoothest one's around. Post pix when you can SAC.
