I picked up at last week's Washington Arms Collectors show in Puyallup this Steyr made Chilean Modelo 1912 in 7x57mm. As you can see, it is not exactly in pristine condition, with some pitting on the left receiver ring, but the bore is in excellent shape and, best of all, the price was right. Sometimes the best bargaining ploy on a late Sunday afternoon at a gun show is to ask "What's it worth to you to not have to lug this back home again?" It worked just fine for me this time.;) Anyway, here are some pics:

I'm looking forward to some range time with it!

Looks good and I see the barrel has been shortened so it must have been through a refurb.

Actually, I don't think so... I should have stated that this was a Modelo 1912 Short Rifle. The total length is spot on for a short rifle at 41.75" and the serial number is only about 600 less than the example pictured in Ball's MMotW. Refurbed, maybe. Shortened, I guessing not.:dontknow:

Nice, really nice catch on that one GW! My friend Nick scored one a couple of months ago at the Greenville gun show & I have been envious ever since.
So envious, in fact, that I got one that just had to be had on Gunbroker. Mine was rebarreled to .308, not in the white, and non-matching. But the bore is absolutely mirror! And she shoots, well she shoots so sweet!
Absolutely beautiful South American Mauser contract rifles made by Steyr, in Austria. Hard to find in any condition - and the contract was interrupted by WWI in 1914.
Lemme see if I can find a picture or 2 of mine?
