Blind Hog,

A friend of mine recently picked up a Greek Mauser. I checked it out today, it is a FN m1930 Greek short rifle, 8mm, complete, bolt, receiver and stock are all numbered to match. Has the nice Greek Crest (cross in a shield) on receiver, and crest also stamped on stock. muzzle looked pretty good. Bore full of cosmo. I'd say it is in good to very good condition. he said he paid $300 for it..wants to know if it was worth it. I told him that from my sources, it was worth about $300, but I had never seen one before, and that I'd ask my buddy who collects such things (that would be you :D )

What do you think? I wouldn't mind having it myself as a conversation piece at the range...you know how we mauser guys are...but I think that he is looking at it as an investment.

Easy answer, BUY IT, NOW before he changes his mind.

I agree, get it while the going is good. I don't recall seeing any, ever. But do recall a distributor having some 2 or 3 years ago but the reviews were not so good so I took a pass.

I saw one at the Greenville gun show last year and that was the first and last one I have seen.

Well, I can't buy it unless he decides to sell. He has bought it for $300. He was just wanting to know about what it is worth.

If I had run across it first and had the $300 I would definitely have bought it...I may be able to talk him out of it, unless it is real valuable, then I'm sure he'd either hang on to it or sell it to a deep pocketed collector.

Spuds saw and pointed out to me a beautiful Chilean Mauser at the AGCA gun show. It was virtually flawless and one of the prettiest I've seen in a long time. It was priced at $450.00. I have no idea if that was too high, too low, etc. But that's something to go on at least.

Perhaps "the Hawgman" has an opinion on it's value, but I can say this. I've seen several, not lots of them, but several Chileans over the past few years. I can't ever remember seeing a Greek Mauser.

Spuds probably goes to more gun shows than anyone I know of, maybe he's seen one, but I'm not sure.

I am building a sporter in .308 on the Greek action. Pretty crest, nice action. I got the action only from a friend, he picked it up somewhere, neither of us dismanteled the rifle, nor did we get to see the rifle. Wish I had one.

I don't recall seeing any Greek Mausers, pretty distintive crest if I recall, kinda like the "Red Cross"?

For values, Man-o-war is as good as anything I suppose.
