From the collections this is one of my favorites. Mauser Oberndorf "Army Hunting Rifle" Model C.

The Type C was the most basic of the Mauser hunting rifles, and was offered at a price that catered to the lower end of the market. They were pretty much just a military barreled actions in a simple sporter stock, although they usually had sporting style sights, sling swivels and the traditional pear shaped Mauser bolt knob.

The rifle pictured here was a slightly better offering than the standard Model C. It was imported into the US by Hans Tauscher, Mauser's pre WWI US sales agent, of New York. It was listed in his pre WWI sales catalog as the Mauser Sporting rifle "Spitzer Bullet". Available in calibers 8x57 /m and 7x57 m/m. It was chambered, throated and rifled specifically for spitzer (pointed) bullets.

Note the encircled B proof marks and the DWM, Berlin side rail legend. It's parent rifle was the 1908 Brazilian military rifle. Mauser had DWM subcontract the production of the 1908 Brazilian. But do note the horn butt plate bears the entwined Waffenfabrik Mauser logo.
