Recently bought a 2A1 in .308. When I first took it to the range, I discovered that it would not strip a new round from the magazine. I took it to a local gunsmith who is not familiar with the Enfield series. He could not decipher the problem. I discovered that the magazine that came with the rifle had been brazed and repaired. Ordered new ProMag .308 magazines. The bolt still would not strip the cartridge from the mag.

The local gunsmith pointed out that the bolt face was flat, and not recessed, he said, as is the case with usual rimless cartridge. Is this the problem? Do I have the wrong bolt?

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestion? Greatly appreciate any response.

Could you post pics of the bolt face?

Have you tried bending the ears on the magazine upward slightly? Here is what the bolt face and magazine should look like. The photos are taken of one of my 2A's that feeds and fires just fine.
