Hey, I think I acquired one of those a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had time to do any real study of it yet, but it looks like the rifle I actually bought!
M1904/39 Portuguese. The common name starts with a "V", but without looking at my bound book, I can't recall exactly.
I'll look at my book and edit later.

On 03.11.06 I was trying to purchase a very nice "Rollercoaster sight" GEW 98from a guy, that wanted too much for the piece. I think he had sentimental value added! Anyway, through further negoiations, he ended up throwing in the Enfield 2A that I told y'all about previously and the Vergueiro. Although there was more cash involved, considering all three, I made out like a bandit.
I think Stan and maybe a couple of you others had to tell me what the Enfield was. It is somewhat different from most UAE's that I can remember, but I didn't have a clue myself.
After having time to look up just a bit of info on the Verguerio, and getting it cleaned up, it's a really nice rifle. The receiver is more like an M1888, but the 1939 modifications to the front sight with the heavy "ears", makes it unique.
I intend to fire it, and the 2A some this weekend to see how well they work. The GEW is still appart being cleaned and won't be ready.
