A couple of my K-11 carbines have the P under the serial number indicating private purchase. One of these carbines has a number after the P, something like

5XXXX

P XX

The particular K-11 dates to 1917. Any notion what the 2 digit number after the P represents? :dontknow:

This is the year the rifle was sold/privatized to the soldier that carried it.

I bought several of these years back when they were not so popular. They are very nice shooting guns.

Thanks wkato! I was curious as one of my others, perhaps 2 others, have the P with no numbers after it. Guess they didn't always stamp the privatized date, huh?

Just depends on where and who did the work when rifles were privatized.
