I just received an 03' Springfield Mark I from my uncle. I checked the serial number and found that it was manufactured in 1919. It has "AOG" stampped in the stock at the back of the receiver. I cant figure out what it means. Any help?

Welcome to the forum...

The letters are probably an inspection stamp showing the initials of an individual or the initials for an arsenal where the inspection was made. I'm sure someone on this forum can give you a more detailed answer.

that will be the armory - im not certain what it is , im not near my referance books at this time , i want to say augusta ...but i could easily be wrong , im old and foggy ,

the mkI is the rifle that was set up for the pederson device , pistol caliber semi-auto conversion system that was developed in 1917-18 and abandonned and destroyed , only a couple museum examples remain in the world and maybe a colector or two , big buck item in any event , but an interesating historical step and a varient i do not have in my collection ,

should be a nice rifle
