.38 Iver and Johnson

I have a top break Iver and Johnson probably from the 1920's on that is in great working shape and a nice shooter. The finish is almost gone completely meaning it looks like it was blued at one time. The back strap is marked " American Ex. Co." and a four digit number after . Does anyone have any ideal when these revolvers were used?

Does it come with a box??

I have an original box but it has a picture of a black powder revolver and the ox is much older. If you look under my other thread about the box there is a picture.
