Ash: i bought a 1903 with a "C" stock from CMP, and couldn't be happier! The Garand I have is an old Blue Sky import, but my kids are itching to shoot it after I gave them a dose of "Band of Brothers".

Great. Looking forward to getting these two. I really wanted the C stock 1903, but they have been out of them for at least a few months now. I should have gotten on the ball a little earlier I guess, but the funds weren't there at the time. From what I hear, most all of the 1903's are in very nice condition, and good shooters. (rebarreled, ect)
I have yet to see Band Of Brothers. I'll have to view that sometime.
Thanks

I had to get a C&R first.
I only got to send the order for my Garand away yesterday.

Oh God, I thought waiting ten days was hard. Now I have to wait at least 3 months.

I hear you Timbo.
I'm pretty sure my 1903 will be here next week though. My Garand....the wait will continue. :dontknow:

I used my C&R FFL for this purchase also. (got it about a month ago)

Cheers

I already had a box full of en block clips. It was only a matter of time until a garand followed.

I have yet to see Band Of Brothers. I'll have to view that sometime.

Just know that in my opinion this is a series that is NOT TO BE MISSED!! Like many other great films and series of the genre, it will remind you yet again of the ultimate price that was paid for our freedom and leave you with profound respect for our fathers and grandfathers. (Like we didn't already have that....:grinning-thumbsup: )

I will be sure to catch it, No4Mk1.

As for my CMP order, now I'm getting a little antzy. :icon_shaking: :BangHead:
The weather is pretty nice out now, except for the severe thunderstorms every weekend I supose.

I'll just have to keep waiting for those long boxes. :dontknow: :happy1:

I'll keep quiet now. :hiding:

The Remington made 1903 arrived a few days ago. This thing was just covered in cosmoline. I have to say the metal parts look pretty good after I cleaned the rifle up. The bore looks very nice also. (after I pushed a huge ball of cosmoline out of the bore) I'm still in the process of cleaning up the stock and handguard. (no sanding) They sent me a scant grip stock, and I thought all they had left were straight grip. :headbanger: Sweet.
Oh, the barrel is dated 12-42 plus the flaming bomb, and this matches when the receiver serial number is dated.

Looking forward to finishing the stock set and shooting her. It's a nice distraction while I wait for the SA M1 Garand. ;)

Cheers.

Great, now I can expect to spend a few days wiping cosmoline of my Garand when it comes.

I guess I should be glad its there, it keeps the gun safe, but than I have to take it off which is the bitch amongst bitches.

Well, the Garand will be at the house after work. When CMP says it could be up to three months wait, they aren't fibbing. I can hardly contain myself. :D

Now I really need to get those two Turkish Mausers and the 1903 Springfield (Remington) back together before taking apart the soon-to-be-in-my-hands SA SG Garand.

Cheers.

I'm expecting mine at anytime now too.

I was so glad to hear about the CMP offer. Really though, more glad that some Garands escaped Clinton's purge....what an ass.

Well, I am pretty pleased with this rifle. The metal finish on all parts is still pretty darn good looking. The muzzle passes the bullet test with flying colors. (All I can test so far) The barrel looks to be pretty darn shiney with nice sharp lands. The forward handgaurd looks to be a replacement. (a bit lighter with a very straight grain) The rear handguard is a little dry. And the stock isn't in too bad shape. But, I'm seriously thinking of getting a Boyds Walnut replacement set. This rifle would look beautiful with a new looking stock. Stampings in most of the parts so far appear to be Springfield (SA). So far I have not taken this apart any further than temporarily pulling the trigger assembly. The only metal part that I see so far as a Greek replacement is the safety, which is marked HXP.

I will do my best to get a nice picture. Looks like rain all week though.

A favor please.... Can anyone here look up my serial number on this Garand to get a manufacture date? (I'm hoping someone here has a book) :D

Cheers

Does this help?

Thanks.
It looks like mine is among some of the last manufactured by Springfield Armory. (kind of what I suspected)
So I take it nobody has dug for months/dates of post-war manufactured M1's? That's what that link kind of implies anyway (bottom of page) :dontknow:

Thanks again. :cool-smiley-1:

I'm not sure if they have or not. I just did a Google on "garand serial numbers" and that was the first one listed. There might be another site with more detailed info.

The date should be stamped on the barrel, under the Op-Rod when you slide the Op-Rod back to full lock, look on the barrel with a good bright light, this will tell you, or at least it should. Mine is an H&R dated to 8-54, 5 million serial number range and seldom fired. I'd go on, but I don't want to bore you guys.

Nice find Herr Mario.
It looks like mine would likely fall into the 1956 year.

Many thanks everyone.
