Hi, My name is George Baker. Help! I am a small time collector of US rifles. I recently purchased a U.S. Krag-Jorgensen Springfield Model 1898, serial 48xxx. From what I found out, a lot of these 1898s were refurbished at the Benicia arsenal? This may be a "converted" carbine (?). It has a newer sight over the rear of the receiver. The rear receiver on the barrel has been removed. It does not have a handguard. The walnut stock seems to be the original for a model 1898. I would like to put a rear sight back on the barrel. Where can I purchase a sight (with mounting screws) What sight would fit on this Krag? Maybe a handguard? Would this be a correct thing to do? What does a "1898 converted carbine" look like? I read you can shoot 303 British rounds through it? I paid $350.00 for it. I need all the info and advice possible. Thanks, George

do not shoot 303 british rounds in a US krag - what you heard was that brit 303 brass could be fire-formed to reload for 30-40 , but the 30-40 brass is available so thats not neccessary ,
