I have one of those little junkers, in my bound book I have it listed as an M38 Cracano Cavalry carbine, Terrani, 6.5mm Italian.

These Crackanos are difficult to identify, at least for me. On the slim chance that the chairman is wrong, I'll venture a guess:

Carcano M38 Moschetto Cavalleria

Nevermind, I think that translates to what the chairman said. But they weren't only manufactured at Terni, Brescia and Beretta may have made them as well, I think.

Also, it could be a M91/38, round barrel shanks were used late in production of the M91, so the lack of the hex shank doesn't mean it wasn't originally an M91 converted to M38 Moschetto Cavalleria .

I was hoping I had it listed correctly in by BB. After all, the original ID was made from Spuds "Crack-cano" book, that I had temporarily borrowed for about a yesr, but have since returned!

Saw one of these in a gun shop today. The shop had a fair amount of milsurps in it; T38 long and Carbine, M1917, 03, but the real drooler was a Johnson Rifle, only $5,995!

I think so Keith. Just for the record, I didn't have the benefit of Hobbs' book on Crackanos when guessing, though I wil admit I immediately surfed to "The Crackano Homepage" on the net. Little good it did, the chairman's gray matter is as sharp as ever.
