Marlin 93 Case Hardening

The receiver on my 93 Marlin has some nice case hardening coloration. Is there anything I can do to the metal to clean it up, e.g. use 0000 steel wool with some brasso or other metal cleaner/polish? Or would this mess up the base coloration, and should I just leave it alone?

I am thinking of selling it, and I wonder if this may enhance its value, as I can take some very good close-up photos!! Thanks for any input!!

I'd becareful. I watched a guy clean up the rust on an ol Bl22 gradeII. Bluing was still there but you could tell..

I am not sure if case colors would hold up to abrasion.
