Several years ago I was given a scope that had been found on a captured K98. The scope was said to be French in origin and off a Lebel. The black finish has been polished off revealing a brass scope. It is unusual in that the windage adjustment is on the objective end of the scope - you rotate the end to move point of impact. Elevation is standard and is calibrated to 1200m.
The aiming mark is an upturned V. Optics are excellent and I am considering using it. Does anyone have a picture of the mounts as I would like to try machining some up.

Hi Jerry,

your scope must be a APX Mle 1921 (the successor of APX Mle 1916 and Mle 1917 scopes fitted to Lebel Sharpshooter selected rifles of WWI).
APX stands for Ateliers de Construction de Puteaux (Puteaux Workshop) an Army run Arsenal located next to Paris

As shown, the mount is specific to the Lebel

Thanks, you appear to be correct. The scope exactly matches the 1921 drawings of the elevation turret, focusing, etc. Shape and appearance is a match. The power does seem slightly less than x4, so x3 is highly probable. The scope has been polished, but the focusing and other markings are still visible. The only reservation I have is the length of the scope - mine is 240mm, not 280mm as stated.
The base mount seem similar to one I have, but I can not remember how or when I acquired it.
