Looking for information on a jp sauer and sohn side by side, riflle/shotgun, Calibers unkown, 12 gauge to big, 16 gauge fits loose, 45/70 fits rifle side but unsure, has hammers, demascus and steel barrels, every piece has matching numbers, trim piece behind the triggers and the break down release on the forearm are bone or antler, every screw is decoratively notched, has very fine checkering in excellent condition.
I have contacted the german gun collectors association back in 1999. They say that one of the numbers would indicate the bore diameter is .425 inch, and that it doesn't have a model number since it was made about 1885. It has several proof marking but the german proof laws didn't go into effect till 1892. They recommended it be valued as a collector's item since it is over 100 years old.
Would like to find a book or anything that would list a value or information.
